May Calendar Picture

May 1, 2011

Yet another of my own plants, a rather unremarkable but nonetheless beloved red Abutilon:

I don’t care all that much for this colour, but there’s no way I’ll get rid of the plant, since it’s not only a ‘grandchild’ of my mother’s huge plant (one of the many victims of my parents’ divorce, I don’t know where it ended up after the house was sold), but also the ‘child’ of an earlier plant of mine that saved several Karl May books, a sheepskin teddy bear and countless sea shells in the great bookshelf collapse of 2006.

It’s spent the last couple of years migrating between bedroom window, staircase and balcony, always in a too small pot, with too little water and fertilizer so it too keep it from resembling its ‘grandmother’ too much (just no room for that!), but it’s still blooming happily.
