Garden Bloggers’ Bloom Day – February 2013

February 15, 2013

Huh. Has it really been a week since my last post? Didn’t feel like that long! (The ideas for posts are piling up, but I’m too busy reading. Books that I have already read several times, but I just love them so much that I can’t put them down long enough to write anything meaningful. And besides I’m having far too much fun with friends in another corner of the internet.)

Anyway. It’s the 15th. And I have flowers.

I have one cute mini amaryllis (which, sadly, had only the one flower, because as it turned out, it hardly had any roots, so the other buds shrivelled up.)

Hippeastrum Cv

I have a Dendrobium (I’m always keeping an eye on the garden centres’ discount shelves in the hope of finding another one – the two I have have done quite well for me):

Dendrobium

I have a pretty mini Phalaenopsis, which I won’t get more of even if I can get them at a discount, because I just don’t have a talent for getting phals to rebloom (but it’s pretty):

Phalaenopsis

I have a Begonia bowerae, which isn’t very showy, but a flower is a flower:

I have violas, too, but I was too lazy to move all the houseplants out of the way so I could open the windows and take a picture… But you’ll probably see them a few more times this spring!

And now I must go back to reading.

It took 4 years to bring my Phalaenopsis in a glass cylinder to put on another bloom stalk after it sent up aerial root after aerial root, so don’t give up hope.

Oh! I just noticed you have a schlumbergera story on your tag list. I have to go….

Mine took nearly five years to rebloom – in fact, on Monday it’ll be exactly five years since I got it.
I’m not sure I’ll have the patience to wait that long again!

Very nice. Just starting to learn about orchids!
