This Is Going to Be… Interesting

August 25, 2013

We had some unused greenhouse space earlier this summer, and some unsold cantaloupe and watermelon plants, so my boss decided we should combine the two and try to grow some melons. The cantaloupes are behaving OK (looks like we will be able to harvest some soon), but the watermelons… they are trying to gain world domination, or at the very least to take over the entire greenhouse, growing across the path and into the cutflower beds… This was after we cut them back, and they are still a tangled mess:

The fruits, however, are still tiny. Except for this one:

Yes, this one is growing inside the roll of support netting at the end of one of the cutflower beds. I didn’t notice it until it was too big to get it out, and now the only way to get it out would be to cut the netting or the stem, and I’m not allowed to do the first, and the second would obviously be a bad idea as well…

Yes, it’s going to be interesting.

That is so funny. I’m always amazed at where fruit can grow. They pick the strangest spots.sometimes.
